(Poster Dress by Harry Gordon.)
For those of you fortunate enough to live in or near the windy city, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers of Chicago presents an absolutely gorgeous selection of clothing, jewelry and accessories, from an impressive list of designers including Harvey Berin, Christian Dior, Malcolm Starr, Chanel, Hermes, Issey Miyake, Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaia, Emilio Pucci, Irene, Pierre Cardin, Geoffrey Beene, Rudi Gernreich, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Claire McCardell, Hattie Carnegie, Galanos, Gilbert Adrian, Ossie Clark, Roberta DiCamerino, Yves Saint Laurent, Missoni, Miriam Haskell, and more.
The vintage couture and accessories will take place on April 18, followed by fine jewelry and timepieces on April 19 & 20. Here are a few of my favorite selections from the catalogue, though with so many amazing pieces it was defintely hard to pick favorites! Just the catalogue is enough eye candy to last all week...
Three pastel and jewel 60s evening beauties, among several by Harvey Berin/Karen Stark, consigned by his wife and muse, Augusta Stark:
A 1920s beaded black dress by Jean Patou:
A trio of 50s eveining gowns, left to right, Castillo, Hattie Carnegie, Christian Dior:
There are so many gorgeous gowns! Left to right: Michael Novarese, Stitsworth, anonymous.
Moving forward a few decades, left to right, below: Roberta diCamerino, Ossie Clark, Zandra Rhodes
And more evening goddess wear, left to right, John Bates, Stephen Burrows, John Galliano:
And in case you think I've forgotten about cocktail length dresses, here are some cuties, left to right, Thierry Mugler, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel:
That's just a minor sampling of the dresses. Don't forget, there's also accessories and fine jewelry.
Lovely lovely lovely. I have just looked through the catalogue and desperately want about 10 items. Can't afford any though, argh!
