Again with the pointless browsing on etsy. The search over at etsy tends to be a bit random, for reasons unknown to me but I'm sure they make sense to the folks in charge there. This time while searching for something unrelated, random photos of vintage dolls and doll parts kept popping up. Ingrigued, I began to search for them instead and came up with quite a few listing where the photos made wonderful portaits on their own merit. So these I'm sharing are more about the product photos themselves, rather than the product being offered.
Some of my earliest sewing memories are of learning to use my grandmother's heavy black metal 1950s Singer by creating my own clothing for my dolls. I remember learning to draft a pattern by tracing the doll and her existing clothing, picking out fabric from grandma's extensive remnant stash, picking out matching thread, trims, laces, rick rack. Cutting out and pinning the pieces together, and my trepidation at sitting down at the machine, my right knee against the pedal, the buzz of the machine right before the fabric began to move forward, the warmth of my grandmother leaning over my shoulder, guiding me all through the process, laughing with me and encouraging me to learn from my mistakes. Her pride, and mine, when I dressed my doll in the finished piece.
